It doesn’t take long to realise the variety of things one can do when you arrive in Ehrwald. From just about every angle, you can look up and see different peaks rising above you. Below each is a variety of different landscapes, from alpine lakes and waterfalls to green fields of wildflowers. We can guarantee it won't make for poor hiking!

Given our unique landscape, there are a variety of hiking, mountaineering and climbing trails available in the area, some beginning but a short walk from the hotel. Our abundance of trails (over 150!) mean that many routes are often tranquil and undisturbed, allowing you to truly feel an explorer. Our great ski seasons mean we also have a good network of modern cable cars, for those who are short on time or wanting to save their energy for the truly epic peaks!
There are some amazing mountain huts to be found at the end of some of these trails, each serving up delicious Tirolean specialities for the hungry hiker. We are more than happy to offer our recommendations, or if you prefer, we can also arrange a lunchbox for you to take on your expedition.
» HALALI Summer tipsFor those more interested in experiencing the area on wheels, the Zugspitz Arena has just as many trails on offer. Often regarded as a special paradise for cyclists and mountain bikers alike, the area boasts a range of downhill tracks as well as some beautiful scenic routes snaking along the valleys. We’ve even been awarded “Best Mountain Biking Area in Austria” several times!
The hotel has plenty of secure storage if you are keen to bring your bike. However, do not fret if space proves tight and you are not able to bring yours along. Ehrwald has some brilliant options for mountain bike and E-bike rental - just ask Otto or Maria.
» The most beautiful toursIf you’re planning an active break and wanting to get the most of the area, the Z-Ticket Active Card is a good all-round option. With this card, you can use all the cable cars in the Zugspitz Arena, travel freely using public transport, access Ehrwald’s Panorama Outdoor swimming pool, jump on a lake cruise on the Heiterwang- and Plansee, and much more.

» To the Z-Ticket flyer 2021For those kids, big and small, or those after a little break from hiking, The Zugspitz Arena is well situated for a variety of different activities. Minigolf, tobogganing, canyoning, tennis, archery, mountain carting, (indoor) bouldering, zip-lining, and swimming are all available locally. A short drive away you can also find the picturesque towns of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, visit the Partnachklamm, test your fear of heights on the Reutte Suspension Bridge, amongst much more. Needless to say, with the scenery around us, even just jumping in the car for a drive can be a wonderful way to experience the area!
